2023 Annual Fundraiser Dinner

The Great Basin Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association is excited to extend an invitation for this year’s A&WMA Great Basin Chapter’s Annual Dinner.  This year’s keynote speaker is Kim Shelley, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.   Kim Shelley will be presenting on “Building Bridges: The Importance of Stakeholder Engagement in Achieving Better Environmental Outcomes”.

The A&WMA Great Basin Chapter Annual Dinner is our opportunity to connect as professionals, highlight our ongoing events, and recognize our annual scholarship winners.

2021 Annual Fundraiser Dinner

The Great Basin Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association is excited to extend an invitation for this year’s Annual Fundraiser Dinner.  This year’s keynote speaker is Debbie Lyons, Sustainability Department Director of SLCGreen.  SLCGreen or Salt Lake City’s Department of Sustainability operate to conserve resources, reduce pollution, slow climate change and ensure a healthy, sustainable future for Salt Lake City.  In this presentation, Debbie Lyons will provide an overview of the programs, operations, and objectives of SLCGreen. With COVID, attendees are encouraged to be vaccinated and wear a mask at any time while not eating or drinking. Despite the challenges present with COVID, this will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow professionals in a fun and social atmosphere while hearing about Salt Lake City’s sustainability initiatives and plans.  The entire event will be outdoors.

Hazardous Waste Determinations

A&WMA is pleased to offer a seminar on SW-846 and Characteristic Hazardous Waste Determinations. Presentation based on applicable federal/state rules and guidance from Chapter Nine of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SW-846 Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste.  Muffins and coffee will be provided.

Jay Vance, P.E., has 20+ years of experience in hazardous waste determinations and will be the presenter. Topics will include characteristic hazardous waste determinations, applicable federal/state rules, recommended guidance, a brief statistical overview, sample design, and representative sampling.

Utah Air Quality Policy Presentation – Trends and Solutions for Utah’s Air Quality Challenges

A&WMA is pleased to offer a joint seminar on air quality and climate change policy presented by the Utah Division of Air Quality and Ramboll.  A light lunch will be provided.

Glade Sowards, Policy Analyst with UDAQ, will discuss air emissions trends in the context of Utah’s major air quality challenges (e.g. particulates, ozone, and regional haze) as well as overview of recent and projected inventory data and will summarize related developments in federal and state emissions control efforts

Megan Neiderhiser, Senior Managing Consultant with Ramboll, will review air quality legislations introduced in other states and discuss policies that could help curb air quality and climate impacts in the Wasatch Front.
